Mental Health Awareness Month – Stop the overthinking before it starts

Are you overthinking again? That’s okay, we all do sometimes. Take a sec to read this before you get caught up in the rehashing. These little tips will help you focus on good thoughts only.

Be aware that you’re starting to overthink.

This is the 1st step in breaking the overthinking pattern. Know when you start to ruminate, extrapolate thoughts or assume things in your mind. If so, just hit pause.

Focus on the here and now.

Take a deep breath. Tell yourself: “I am here and now”. Focus on what you can do right now to solve things rather than asking yourself “why?” and “what if…?”. Can’t do anything right now? Then let go for now. And remember: it’s never a failure, always a lesson.

Distract your mind.

Keep your thoughts busy with something else. Something that requires concentration, reflection, or just something you love. A video game, a book, a creative hobby, an inspiring insta account, a walk outside, videos from your fav You Tuber… this will help you focus on the good :).

Allow yourself dedicated times to think about your life and get your thoughts in order. This way, the rest of the time you can focus on the present moment and tell these thoughts “Nope, not now”.

Externalize your thoughts.

In a journal, or with a friend. Talking about your thoughts helps to put them into perspective, see things differently and get them out of your head. 🙂

Stop always striving for perfection.

Don’t always strive for perfection baby. Sometimes things don’t go the way you want them to…and that’s okay. You know what’s perfect? You’re perfect. <3
